This was the view from our cabin window when we opened the curtains. The building has a mixed history including a grain store and a barracks before becoming a school.
This morning we started with a walking tour of Saverne, We had a very good local guide who wasn’t full of facts and figures and didn’t hurry us around.
We were back on the boat about half eleven setting sail for Lutzelbourg , today lunch was a bit different with a BBQ cooked and served on the deck by our chef.
After lunch we walked along the canal for a bit, getting off at one lock and reboarding at the next.
We finally moored up at Lutzelbourg mid afternoon and went for a walk along the waterfront. I mentioned the narrow gauge railway lines alongside the canal in an earlier post. They were laid so these small engines could tow the un-motorised barges along the canal in place of horses.
In typical French style we came across a Lavoir which is where the ladies of the town would do their laundry, Some were covered with a roof but this one was in the open.
Later in the afternoon Diana and a few of the others decided to climb to the castle ruins that overlook the valley. The last photograph shows a section of canal we will be traveling on tomorrow.
Looking down on the town, If you look carefully you can just see our boat, I’m on the top deck looking up. | ||
