Today was a trip to Gozo, our coach took us to the ferry where we crossed as foot passengers and there was a second coach waiting for us on the island.
The Coach driver was bit of a canny soul and knew the route of all the major tour operators, we went the other way and some of the places we visited were almost deserted. These included Calypso’s Cave and Xwejni Bay. We also visited the salt pans which fill with sea water in the winter and the sun evaporates the water off in the summer heat.
We also visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu
People came here to be cured of all sorts of ailments and sent letters of thanks or their crutches and casts etc which are all on display |
We couldn’t avoid the crowds all day but it wasn’t too bad.A visit to Rabat also know as Victoria named after Queen Victoria. The ancient ruins date back to the bronze age
At San Lawrenz, a small village there is a small inland bay, On the far side of the bay in the cliff face is a cave, go through the cave and you come out into the open seas. They said it would be the best 5 euros we would spend while we were in Malta and they were right.
Dwejra Bay with the mouth of the cave that leads to the sea. |
