Santander was a day of leisure, we arrived a little before lunch and the hotel took care of our bags until our rooms were ready. Almost opposite the hotel was the Cathedral so we made that the first port of call. First down to the crypt where some of the old foundations had been uncovered and were visible through the glass floor

We wandered around town to find somewhere for a drink and a bite to eat. The rooftop shot was from our hotel window.

After lunch we took a walk down to the old dock and just past the old disused crane we caught a boat taking people out to the island in the estuary, went ashore for a beer and caught the next boat back.

There was a ferry that had just finished unloading at the ferry port while we were there, Join the ferry in the UK and the next thing you are doing is driving on the wrong side of the road through Santander town. Our onward journey the next morning was to Gijon with bit of an early start and the weather was not so nice, but the station was only a few minutes from our hotel and again all our cases would be traveling without us. When we arrived in Gijon the train sitting at the far platform looked a bit more luxurious that our meter gauge job.
