Today we had a coach excursion to visit the Basque Railway Museum in Azpeitia. This place was quite unique set in the old railway workshops, it even has the old machinery belt drive system that still works
They also have a wonderful selection of engines through the ages with duel gauge rails, standard and one meter
Upstairs in the station is a large collection of railway uniforms, clocks and watches
Our ride on the steam train was not booked until the afternoon so it was off into the small town for a beer, bit of food and a look round. We didn’t go into the church as there was obviously some kind of event taking place. One thing that struck me was the size of the public lavoir, I had only seen smaller ones in France before.

After lunch there was a steam train running of course we had to go for a ride. It may have helped if the carriage breaks had been on when they coupled up, or maybe they were, who knows but no one was hurt.
Once coupled up we were soon on our way through the country side on a 2.8 mile return trip along the disused Urola railway.
On our return coach journey to Bilbao, the coach driver dropped off those of us who were interested, at the top of the hill above the town. This gave us spectacular views over Bilbao.
To get back to the town we took the Funicular Railway and luckily got to the front of the coach to give a good view down the track.
This was the Funicular Railway looking back from the City of Bilbao.
