Day one of a week on the barge Rosa

Sunday 5 June 2016
The barge company picks its customers up in Toulouse at the Pullman hotel on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm to take them to the Barge. We made our way back to the hotel and picked up our bags from reception and waited in the bar, it was there that we met our fellow travellers, 5 Australians. Two couples and a single lady, The two couples came from Melbourne but didn’t know each other and the lady from Sydney. DSCN0983 Spot on time Adele turned up in the VW minibus and soon had us loaded up and on our way. It was about a 50 minute drive to Boé where the boat was moored, we expected it to be at Agen but they explained the electrical power supply was more robust at Boé. Every day while we cruised Adele would move the minibus and wait at the next mooring for us so that she could take us on an excursion somewhere.
Rosa is quite a famous Barge as she starred in the TV series with Rick Stein on the Canal du Midi, she has 4 en suite double cabins, two with double beds and two with two single beds.Ours had the single beds, she also has a spacious lounge/dining room. The umbrellas on the top deck could only be used while moored up due to the low bridges. Most lunches were served on the top deck before we set off on our afternoon cruise.

We were met by the Barge owner and chef Dominique and our hostess Elisa with a Champagne welcome. Although Dominique owns the boat he doesn’t steer her, that job goes to Pierre who would be joining us on Monday. Once all introductions were carried out and information exchanged we headed off to our cabins before assembling again for a 4 course dinner with wine in the dining room.
