This morning two of the guests left us for some reason so I guess something urgent had come up.
We were away at 9am. most civilised time to start the day passing what may have been a Hotel Barge or just a private residence, who knows? as well as a couple of wharfs, one with coils of steel the other containers.
We also passed what looked like an old holiday complex with a slide dropping into the river as well as some rather nice riverside properties.
The bridges look quite low as you approach them but there is loads of room and the top deck was open all day Again the locks are twinned, side by side with the standard three traffic lights set out on a triangle to indicate which to use.
Today we had lunch on the move and it was just after lunch when we arrived at our moorings. When we got there , there were two cruisers where we wanted to moor so we ended up with the bows against the quay and the stern and half the boat against the trees. We only saw one person trip over the cruisers mooring lines and later he tide a flag on them.
Once moored up a guide arrived to take us on a guided walk and talk around the town as its where Vincent van Gogh spent some time and is buried, we did a very quick visit to the church as well as where he did some of his paintings from.
Our walk finished at a very old drinking house where people use to go to drink Absinthe, a highly distilled spirit that was diluted with water and dripped through sugar, this led to people suffering from alcohol poisoning due to its uncontrolled strength. The house now houses a museum dedicated to it. Like Gin it is infused with lots of different herbs and berries, some toxic.
Thankfully as we had walked the length of the town our coach was waiting to take us back to the boat for cocktails and our evening meal.
